FICPI Sweden’s comments on the ongoing IP Action Plan regarding Non-Agri Geographical Indication:
The European Commission has, within the framework of their IP Action Plan, noted that there's currently no EU-wide system for protecting the geographical indications of non-agricultural products (such as handicrafts and industrial goods) although such products often are an important part of local identity, attract tourism and create jobs. The Commission released a document in the second half of 2020 asking for input. FICPI Sweden has recently filed the following comments – see enclosed document:
FICPI Sweden´s comments on the European Commission report on the SPC Regulations (SWD(2020) 292 final):
In November 2020, the European Commission published a report on its evaluation of the SPC Regulations (SWD(2020) 292 final). Recently, FICPI Sweden gave it's comments to this report, emphasizing the importance of keeping the the basic purposes of patent protection in mind, if amendments of the SPC provisions are being considered. FICPI Sweden hopes for an open and transparent process, and a stronger focus on the patent protection offered by an SPC, if the EU Commission considers any radical changes to the SPC system.
